We all want to be THAT teacher, the one that makes you want go to school, the one that inspires, the one that motivates…but we all know that is not only complicated but also time-consuming: to motivate we need to be resourceful, updated and propose, specially in our subject, topics that can attract our students. And yes, we have a book, a teacher’s book that shows us how to “deliver a lesson” but, if you are here reading these words in your free time, it is because you want more…and we will try to give you a hand…
Creating material, finding resources, adapting those to the level of our students, it all takes TIME and CREATIVITY and it can be most of times, exhausting, so…imagine to have an assistant that, when given clear instructions, work for you, 24/7, and for free…ohhh what a dream,right? and well, it is now true and it is called AI. AI tools like ChatGPT, gemini or lesson generators like Twee or others can help you create engaging activities in seconds, yes, level and age appropriate, with the topic you want!. Need a reading comprehension activity about Halloween for 12-year-olds A2 level with also some AHDH students in the class? Or a role-play scenario for intermediate learners who never find a topic you bring interesting? Instead of spending an hour searching or writing from scratch, AI can generate ideas or even full lesson plans in the time of a coffee can be done.
AI makes it easier to adapt the same topic to different levels or student needs.Imagine talking about the Roman Empire while teaching past and future…can you think of finding the exact kind of material to do so? For teens, adults or even kids, all levels, all kinds of skills (academic and soft) can be done, with authentic material as sources, in just a click. Whether you need simplified texts, extra vocabulary practice, or creative games for fast finishers, AI can produce options fast, saving you hours of editing.
Essays, creative writing, and longer responses are valuable for assessing student progress, but they are also some of the most time-consuming tasks for us to do and this is where AI can be a real time-saver, again. While it is true that AI can not and will not fully replace a teacher’s insight, especially when it comes to understanding context, nuance, and student intent, it can still offer a powerful layer of support, so why not to try?
AI tools can pre-check grammar and spelling, highlight awkward sentence structures, suggest better vocabulary, or even analyze tone and coherence. This means that by the time you sit down to read a student’s work, the basic corrections have already been marked, giving you more time to focus on deeper elements like content, creativity, and critical thinking…In short, it does not (and will not) replace your role as an EDUCATOR, but it acts like a first draft reviewer, helping you reducing your workload and focus your attention where it matters most.
If you are planning or even now a little bit motivated to use AI in your lessons we recommend you to start with Chat GPT or Gemini, that are not “experts” in the ESL world and will not create a full lesson for you but just start trying and follow these simple steps for better results:
- Give clear instructions of what you want: it is AI not a wizard, so it can not read your mind (yet, LOL) so state clearly your needs
- Explain to the AI the role you want it to cover: AI can be your assistant, a graphic designer or the best teacher…you just need to ask
- Try and retry: do not stick to the first version, ask AI to improve the things you do not like, to change the content, the tone, the target…try and try again till you find your best suitable version of AI.
Do not be afraid: AI is here to help us; remember that AI won’t steal your job but a person AI maybe will… So don’t teach harder…teach smarter.

Tutti noi vorremmo essere QUEL tipo di insegnante, quello che ti fa venire voglia di andare a scuola, quello che ispira, quello che motiva… ma sappiamo bene che non solo è complicato, ma richiede anche molto tempo: per motivare dobbiamo essere creativi, aggiornati e proporre, specialmente nella nostra materia, argomenti che possano attirare l’attenzione dei nostri studenti. E sì, abbiamo un book, un teacher’s book che ci mostra come “tenere una lezione”, ma se sei qui a leggere queste parole nel tuo tempo libero, è perché vuoi di più… e noi cercheremo di darti una mano…
Creare materiale, trovare risorse, adattarle al livello dei nostri studenti, tutto questo richiede TEMPO e CREATIVITÀ e può essere, il più delle volte, estenuante, quindi… immagina di avere un assistente che, quando gli vengono date istruzioni chiare, lavora per te, 24/7, e gratuitamente… ohhh che sogno, vero? Ebbene, ora è realtà e si chiama IA.
Strumenti di IA come ChatGPT e Gemini o lesson generators come Twee e altri, possono aiutarti a creare attività coinvolgenti in pochi secondi, sì, adeguate al livello e all’età, con l’argomento che vuoi!
Hai bisogno di un’attività di comprensione scritta su Halloween per ragazzi di 12 anni di livello A2 con alcuni studenti AHDH in classe? O di uno scenario di role-play per studenti di livello intermedio che non trovano mai interessante un argomento proposto?
nvece di passare un’ora a cercare o a scrivere da zero, l’AI può generare idee o persino full lesson plans nel tempo di un caffè. L’IA rende più facile adattare lo stesso argomento a diversi livelli o esigenze degli studenti. Immagina di parlare dell’Impero Romano mentre insegni il passato e il futuro… riesci a pensare al tipo di materiale esatto da utilizzare? Per adolescenti, adulti o anche bambini, tutti i livelli, tutti i tipi di competenze (accademiche e trasversali) possono essere affrontati, con materiale autentico come fonti, con un solo click.
Che tu abbia bisogno di testi semplificati, esercitazioni extra di vocabolario o anche di giochi creativi per gli studenti più veloci, l’IA può produrre rapidamente diverse opzioni, facendoti risparmiare ore di editing. I saggi, la scrittura creativa e le risposte più lunghe sono preziosi per valutare i progressi degli studenti, ma sono anche alcuni dei compiti che richiedono più tempo e qui l’IA può essere di nuovo un vero risparmio di tempo.
Sebbene sia vero che l’IA non può e non sostituirà completamente l’intuito di un insegnante, soprattutto quando si tratta di comprendere il contesto, le sfumature e le intenzioni degli studenti, può comunque offrire un potente livello di supporto, quindi perché non provarla?
Gli strumenti di intelligenza artificiale possono controllare la grammatica e l’ortografia, evidenziare strutture sintattiche poco naturali, suggerire un vocabolario più appropriato o persino analizzare il tono e la coerenza. Ciò significa che quando ti siedi a leggere il lavoro di uno studente, le correzioni di base sono già state segnate, dandoti più tempo per concentrarti su elementi più profondi come il contenuto, la creatività e il pensiero critico…
